Working Longer in NHSScotland

Logo 4

The STAC Working Longer Sub-Group was established in 2015 to take forward the Working Longer agenda in NHSScotland.  There is already a UK NHS Working Longer Group which was set up in the wake of changes to the NHS Pension Scheme brought about by the Public Services Pensions Act 2013.  The Scottish Group will work in tandem with the UK Group to consider Working Longer issues in an NHSScotland context.

Why is this necessary?

State Pension Age is due to increase incrementally over the next 30 years and to reach 68 by the middle of the century.  Normal pension age within the NHS Pension Scheme introduced in 2015 is linked to State Pension Age.  NHSScotland staff will therefore be working longer in the future, and demographics mean that the workforce is likely to be older generally.

Resources

The UK and Scottish Working Longer Groups aim to make resources available to NHS staff and management to help them address the challenges and opportunities which these changes will bring.  Resources aimed at NHS Scotland can be found here.

The Scottish Group

Information on the Scottish Working Longer Group’s remit and membership can be found here.

The UK Group

More information on the UK Group can be found by clicking on the link at the end of this paragraph.  However, it should be noted that this site is housed within the larger NHS Employers site and is aimed at the NHS in England, meaning not all the information is relevant to Scotland.  Whilst the NHS Employers site may be useful as background, Scottish staff and managers should only ever relay on the information and resources on the Scottish site for Working Longer issues in this countryUK Working Longer Review Website.
